"The Landing of King Orry" by Reginald Higgins 1929. This is  a Manx railway poster. King Orry (Godred Crovan) is the first known King of the Isle of Man.  He fought with King Harald of Norway against Harold of England, at Stamford Bridge in 1066. In 1079, he gathered together an army and a fleet and conquered the Isle of Man making it a single kingdom.. Goree is the Manx form of Godred, which later became Oree or Orry. His nickname, Crovan, was taken from the white gauntlets he wore .

  2. Have you ever considered the possibility that Godred Crovan and Eystein Ørre were one and the same? Harald Hardrada may have been invading England under the flag of Byzantium, and William the Bastard was contesting for Rome. Ørre was likely a turncoat, delaying his entry into the battle at Stamford Bridge in order to ensure Harald’s defeat.
