He fought with King Harald of Norway against Harold of England, at Stamford Bridge in 1066. In 1079, he gathered together an army and a fleet and conquered the Isle of Man making it a single kingdom.. Goree is the Manx form of Godred, which later became Oree or Orry. His nickname, Crovan, was taken from the white gauntlets he wore .
